Tests and Test-taking

Testing Center Guidelines for Students

student thinking
  1. Identification Requirements:

Examinees will be asked to present different identification depending upon the type of exam.

    1. FSU Course Exams and Departmental Exams: Students must present a valid FSU ID card with a clear photo to check in. NO other form of ID will be accepted (e.g. FL Driver's License, SSN, Blackboard User ID). Any student who leaves to retrieve an FSU ID card or obtain a new card must return in time to be seated by the cutoff time. Note: for paper version of the Modern Language Exam, non-FSU students are required to present their school ID or a valid photo ID.

    2. State/National Exam(CLEP, TEAS and TOEFL): Examinees must present 2 forms of ID to test. One must be a government-issued photo ID with a signature (e.g.: Driver's License, passport) and the other must have either a photo or signature (e.g.: Military ID, SS Card). Students may not test without proper identification. Note: For TOEFL exam, if you are a Non-U.S. citizen, a valid passport or permanent resident card (green card) is required. Examinees may view the ETS website for more information about accepted types of identification.

  2. Students must be checked in between the times designated for their testing window. Please be advised that seating times are strictly enforced. Students who arrive after the last seating time will be asked to contact their professor.

  3. Students' cell phones must be turned off completely while in the testing room. If a student's cell phone vibrates, makes any alert or sound, or is otherwise found to be on in the testing room (UCC1100), the student's exam will be terminated and/or the student will forfeit the chance to test. Students must wait until they exit the testing room before turning their cell phone back on.

  4. Students must adhere to the FSU Academic Honor Code. Students caught cheating, falsifying identification, accessing any personal belongings, or engaging in suspicious behavior will have their exam terminated and will not be allowed back in CAT for the remainder of the semester. A report will be sent to the instructor and may result in academic and/or legal repercussions.

  5. Exam materials:

    1. Examinees may not bring loose papers (study guides, notes, or blank paper) into the testing room. If scratch paper is allowed on the test, it will be provided. If scratch paper is provided, it must be turned in before leaving.
    2. If any other materials are allowed, such as reference sheets or white boards, the policy regarding them will be set forth. However please note that CAT will not provide calculators to any exams; if a calculator is allowed in a state/national exam, it should be an on-screen calculator; if a calculator is allowed in an FSU course exam, the student must bring his/her own.

  6. Hats, head gear, wraps, etc. may not be worn during exams (except that which is prescribed for religious purposes).

  7. Students are expected to exhibit proper decorum when using CAT facilities. Violations of the following rules may result in the student being expelled from CAT for the remainder of the semester.

    1. There is no talking in the testing room, except to proctors.

    2. Leaving the testing room with any test content (questions, directions, etc.) or with any student responses is strictly prohibited.

    3. Inappropriate behavior towards CAT staff or other students will result in dismissal from the testing facility.

  8. Score reporting or test results:
CAT is not responsible for examinees' grades or results. Examinees are responsible for taking any disputes to their instructors or the test-providing institutions. CAT will print out an unofficial score reports for CLEP and AccuPlacer testers when they finish the exams.
  9. Computers in the testing room may not be used for any purpose other than to take exams. Any student caught attempting to use computers for any other purpose will be asked to leave immediately - whether the exam has started or not.
